Google Experimenting with Cost-Per-Action Ads

Google AdSense begins to send out invitation for select web publishers to test out their new Cost-Per-Action (CPA) based program, in addition to the Cost-Per-Click (CPC) and Cost-Per-Mille (CPM — Cost-Per-Thousand-Impressions). Seeking Alpha network posted the attachment containing some most common questions and answers.

Publishers will get paid whenever a site visitor clicks on the ad on your site and performs a specified action, such as generating a lead or puchasing a product. Yes, Google has jumped into the affiliate marketing arena.

CPA-based ads will allows more flexibility. Publishers can say something like “I recommend this product” or “Try JetBlue today” next to the CPA ad unit. Irrelevant call to action (such as “Click here”) is not ok though.

Will I be able to see reports within my account?

When the test begins, you will receive weekly email reports of conversions you have accrued and your total revenue within the CPA test.

Google AdSense offering for the CPA-based ads directly compete with affiliate networks such as Commission Junction and Linkshare. Seeking Alpha even said that it is a ValueClick killer, which spells the end of ValueClick’s CJ business.
